I have recently spoken with several ladies about this and thought I would share it with more people.
If you are like me, my kids outgrown their clothes lengthwise way before width (Titus at 6 weeks fits the 3-6 month lengths). There is a marvelous invention called the "onesie extender!" It's a square piece of fabric with alternate snaps on either end to extend the length of the onesie. They come in different sizes because different brands use different snaps. I was fortunate to find a set at a garage sale for 10 cents. However, you can purchase them on amazon.com here - a set of 10 for 5 types of snaps for $16. Hope this is helpful for all those long babies!

I have one of these! They're the best
