Learning

This week has been dedicated "Train-Kale'a-to-sleep-in-crib Week."  Because she was SO fussy when she was newborn, we discovered that sleeping in the swing was the only thing that KEPT her asleep (other than holding).  A month or more ago, we weaned her off the swing and she slept in the bouncy seat which provided a little motion and more horizontal position.  With upcoming vacation trips planned and to save on $ for batteries, we needed to train her to sleep in her crib (pack N play bassinet).  So far we are 100% success rate during her naps!  She did sleep last night in the bouncy seat because I needed sleep but tonight we will attempt the crib.  Additionally, today has been the first day that she has gone to sleep all on her own (without rocking her to sleep)!  YAY!  There is much rejoicing in this house!

By the way, I have been greatly enjoying the book that my sister-in-law Grace has lent me called "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child."  It has been a valuable resource!  Kale'a would fall into the "colicky" category but the techniques still seem to work - just later in age.

Here is a cute picture of Kale'a during Tummy Time - she was smiling but that's hard to capture on film.  She's no over-achiever but seems to be growing and learning well!  Her latest quirk is to stick her tongue out... wonder where she learned that... hmmm :)  I'll have to get a picture of it.
