Celebrating 4 years!

Last week marked 4 years of marriage for us!  Woohoo!  My sister and her husband graciously offered to watch our kids overnight (stating they could do just about anything for only one night :) ).  So on Friday we dropped the kids off in the morning and headed down the mountain.  Instead of heading toward Sedona, we went the other direction to Wet Beaver Creek to go backpacking.  We haven't gone backpacking since I was first pregnant with Kale'a 3 years ago (incidentally, my first time backpacking).  It was at least 10-15 degrees warmer than Flagstaff and so green!  Unfortunately we have very few pictures as we just plain forgot.  We hiked "only 3" miles which took several hours starting at desert like vegetation and ending in the red rocks, cool creek and lots of plant growth!  Most people stop when they get to the swimming hole which is deep enough to cliff jump.  We went a little further to a large rock overhang where we set up camp.  It was so pleasant to just hang out by the creek, cool our worn out feet and read books - all without needy kids!  We went to bed with the sun and got up after the sun!  It would have been a great sleep except I was sure there was a mountain lion trying to get our food (wasn't true of course) but several cups of coffee was the cure for the morning.  We took it easy, reading again, ate lunch, packed up and headed out.  Thankfully we took a jump into the creek at the swimming hole with all our clothes on before the hike out!  It was quite toasty on the way back and we were so thankful for the cool clothing!  It was a good trip and so nice to get away from technology and kids and just re-coup together.  And the kids were good for Aimee too!

On our way up! Caleb graciously gave me the lighter backpack!

Our campsite, after we packed most of it up. Below is the creek.

  1. Amazed and impressed and ever so slightly jealous - you, "in your condition," going backpacking and camping! Sigh. That's awesome.
